Mrs. Simpson, the postmistress at Marske in 2009
Met this kind lady in Marske. Someone told me if I wanted any historic information about the area she would be the one to see. She was indeed a gold mine of information (or should I say lead mine) ;)

My Ward History Scenario
My Ward History Scenario
An outline of what my research has revealed as a likely scenario for my Ward family lineage back to the 12th century. The link between the 16th and 17th centuries is based on some speculation as it is not yet possible to back up with actual records.

Orgate Farm
Orgate Farm
First glimpse of Orgate. At the time I knew my ancestors had lived at Orgate, but wasn't sure if this house would have been around back in 1639. But it felt amazing just entertaining the thought that this was the home of Ralph Warde de Orgate, my 8x great grandfather!

The place had a bleak, yet wild and rugged appeal, accentuated by the fact this could be my ancestral home!

Orgate House
Orgate House
How long has this venerable house been perched in this rugged landscape, its windows peering out over the comings and goings of an equally rugged people? Decades? or centuries? Oh if only the walls could speak and tell me if the voices heard within them were those of my ancestors, Ralph Warde 'de Orgate', his wife Eden, and their firstborn son Simon.

That's one powerful looking bull! I think the breed is Blonde d'Aquitaine, impressive animals, especially in such a beautiful setting as Skelton Lane.

My great great great grandmother (my father's mother's mother's mother) Mary Scott and her family were listed in a very old family bible. This paper endeavors to piece together and document the family histories and connections based on the entries from that Bible.

St Edmund the Martyr church in Marske
St Edmund the Martyr church in Marske
Here is a quote about it from Geograph.org.uk
"An Anglican parish church in the small village of Marske in Swaledale, St Edmund's has an ancient history. Parts of the building including some of the columns are as old as 12th century, but much of it, including the box pews, date from c.1630 when it was largely restored. Further alterations were made in 1683 and the chancel was rebuilt in the late 19th century.

The parish is closely linked with the Hutton family, who included Matthew Hutton, Archbishop of York 1595 - 1606."
