Entering the cottage we rented in Grinton where Richard, myself, and our son and his wife enjoyed a glorious Dales holiday in July 2009.

Ireland, Londonderry - Ervey, Lower Cumber
I was using GoogleMaps at 'street level' going along 'Ervey Road' which is in the Townland of Ervey where the Lowthers are from, and spotted this scene - could very well have been our ancestors old homestead! Hmmm... a fixer-upper?

Leaving Orgate
Leaving Orgate
One last look back at Orgate Farm as storm clouds collect and the threat of a downpour impels us to press on with our return journey through Clints Wood, back through Marske and home to Grinton.

Me and the 'Pig'
Me and the 'Pig'
Mrs Simpson brought out a block of 'pig lead' to show me what the local miners produced back in the day. Little did I know at this time that most of my Ward ancestors were lead smeltors who actually owned and operated smelting mills nearby in Clints and Whashton.
