Joe age 81 of St. Croix passed away December 28, 2014 in the Hants Community Hospital. Born in St. Croix in October 13, 1933 he was the son of the late Chauncey Caldwell and Sarah (Whiting). Predeceased by his brothers Gerald, Chauncey (Jr.) Duke and Arnold; sisters Iris Lowe (Cliff) and Gwen Paige. Joe joined the Canadian Army in 1952, however, after one year had to be Medically Discharged. He then worked for Nova Scotia Power for 13 years. Joe ended his working career doing what he loved mechanic work and truck driving. | 1342 | Captain John H Marsters Windsor, April 22 - Captain John Hiram Marsters died yesterday afternoon in the 95th year from a second paralytic stroke, the first attack being five years ago, which affected his speech. For twenty years he followed the sea, and afterwards conducted a general business in Sommerville. He took a deep interest n shipbuilding, was a most enterprising citizen and well known and highly esteemed by all classes thruout Hants. Captain Hiram was of good old stock, honest as the sun, and leaves an unstained reputation. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Arabelle Smith, of Kempt. He was married sixty-five years. One sister, Mrs. Ann Skaling, Vancouver, aged 92, is the only survivor of the family of four, three brothers and one sister. One son and daughter have passed away. | 1343 | Captain Knowlton Marsters, of the Dominion Coal Co's service, passed away yesterday. Invalided from the service of the company he has served so long and faithfully, Captain Knowlton Francis Marsters died at Dartmouth yesterday. He was born in Hantsport, 52 years ago, and followed the sea from a boy. Following his arduous war work in transporting munitions to France, he suffered a breakdown from which he never recovered and has been failing ever since. Captain Knowlton Marsters was in the service of the Dominion Coal Co. for the greater part of his life. At the time of his breakdown, he was the senior captain in he service of the compnay. Starting on the 'Bonavesta,' he has commanded practically every steamer in the Doninion Coal Co's fleet. His intimate knowledge of the coast made him especially valuable and he often acted as pilot for the company's fleet. Captain Marsters was a man who did not spare himself. His life as a sailor was a striking example of devotion to duty. In all his battles with the elements on the stormy Nova Scotia coast in midwinter, in the treacherous water of Newfoundland, or in the foggy St. Lawrence, he has had the proud distinction of never losing a ship. Durin the war he commandedd the 'Turret Cape,' carrying war material for the Allies from Sydney to France. For the greater part of this period he was operating without convoy. He had many narrow escapes from the Hun submarines, on one occasion the ship immediately behind his was torpedoed off Southampton harbor. His experience during the war re-.... on his health to the extent that he was obliged to return home for a long rest. He made one more trip in com.... of the 'Hochelaga,' from .... to Montreal, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis.
