Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters, Marg MacMillan, Ruth Galbraith, Becky Kenny (Brent), Sam Biro (Donna), Dan Biro; sister-in-law Florence Poster, numerous nieces and nephew’s as well as many dear friends. I was born on the day of our Lord, on JULY 17th, 1937, in a little log cabin on the edge of the wilderness surrounding LAKE of the WOODS, in south-western Ontario, near the town of Rainey River. My father had been given a plot of a few acres of land in the corner of a quarter section owned by a relative of my mother. There, the family, which consisted of Mother, Father, and 2 older brothers and 3 older sisters, lived in a small log cabin. The family move to a farm in Murillo Ontario, where Dave attended the rural school and the later highschool in Fort William On (Thunder Bay) He was a welder by trade, had his own business, then later he taught Welding at Red Deer College for 20 years. Upon his retirement he took up many hobbies. He loved golfing, fishing, & hunting. Had many great times with his friends. He joined the Lacombe Lapidary club and started collecting rocks. Then went on to join the Calgary Faceters club and learnt how to facet gemstones. His passion was being able to teach others how to facet and see them accomplish a finished stone. He also joined the woodworkers club, and the Gold Panners. He had a few trips out panning for gold. Dave loved being with his family and taking camping trips to various areas. Also traveling to Thunder Bay, Ontario to visit family and his life long school buddy. Then to BC to see more family and friends. He loved hosting his corn roasts over the open fire pit in the fall along with family, friends and good music for all to enjoy. Special thanks to the Lacombe Palliative Care nurses, and Dr. Darnell for their excellent care and compassion. In lieu of flowers and cards, memorial donations in Dave’s honour may be directed to Lacombe Handicraft & Lapidary Guild www.afrc.ca/lacombe.htm, or Special Olympics Red Deer www.specialolympics.ca. | BIRO, David Anath (I25870)

| 1473 | David Shaw is most likely the person referred only as 'D.S.' in the book 'The life and journal of the Rev. Mr. Henry Alline' as follows: "May the 3d, I returned to Falmouth. O what different aprehensions a prospect of death often occasions on a person's mind. I was now sent for by one D. S. on his death-bed ; who had been one of the most inveterate foes I had among men ; he would often curse me and threaten me ; but now when I went in the house, he reached out his hand, and in an affecting manner said, if he had done me any wrong, he begged my forgiveness, and would, if possible, restore me four-fold, I answered I had nothing against him on my own account, neither had I, as I knew of, until then, discoursed with him concerning the state of his soul. He seemed very penitent ; and gave me an account of something of light he lately received and some manifestation of joy, which seemed rather to give one a hope of him, but I was not fully satisfied. He insisted on my company as much as possible until he died. I attended his funeral and preached a sermon. I remained in town until the 16th May, and then set out for Annapolis..." Evidence pointing to this conclusion is the fact that David Shaw died May 1777 and did live in Falmouth. | SHAW, David (I5852)

| 1499 | DEATH OF MRS. C.A. SMITH. One of Chester's Good Women Has Passed Away. On Saturday, the death of Eleanor Caldwell, the wife of Charles A. Smith, occurred at her home in Chester. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late William Caldwell, of Windsor. Thirty-three years ago she was married to Mr. Smith, thus making her home in Chester, where she resided to the day of her death, at fifty-eight years of age. Mrs. Smith was of Scotch-Irish descent, and possessed many of the noblest characteristics of that courageous, warm-hearted people. She hated shams, and loved sincerity. She was simple in her tastes and habits of life, firm and courageous in her convictions of truth and duty. She was a faithful member of the Baptist church in Chester. Her illness, which was long and painful, was borne with Christian fortitude. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, one son, Perlie, of Sydney, and two daughters, Mrs. H.E. Mitchell and Miss Dufferin, of Chester. Note, the obit incorrectly gives her father as William Caldwell, but it should be Edward. | CALDWELL, Eleanor (I114)
