She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce Carroll of 67 years, her parents Frank and Alice Vaughan, her sisters Marjorie and Joan, her brothers Owen and Raymond and son-in-law, Scott. She was born in Windsor, Nova Scotia, the youngest of five children, where she excelled at school and made life-long friends. She loved to sing, attend dances and play hockey. Throughout her life, she always retained a girlish spirit and love of life. She was a warm, dedicated and passionate mother to her seven children and their many friends.She devoted herself to her family, and was actively engaged in volunteer work through their activities, sports and school. She was a gifted seamstress, sewing exquisite clothes for her children and grandchildren. She and Bruce moved from Nova Scotia to Toronto in 2006. She loved her life in Toronto, being close to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending winters with Bruce and their family and friends in Naples, Florida. Relationships were deeply important to her: she loved people and people loved her. She never missed a birthday or anniversary and had an extraordinary memory. She always had a positive outlook and was grateful for each day. We loved her deeply and know that she loved all of us. Even though he was a mechanic by trade his passion was woodworking. There wasn’t a woodworking tool he couldn’t operate, from making hand made furniture to vintage cars and trucks. Crafting and hand painting many “Folk Art” items for family and friends. Don was born in Sydney, N.S on July 12, 1932, the son of the late Claude and Jean (McBratney) Ward. He attended the Nova Scotia College of Art, and was the Senior Graphic Artist at CJCB in Sydney, and CHSJ in Saint John. Don and several of his friends from the art college formed the Harmony Lake group of artists, and met at various locations for many years to sketch, paint, and enjoy critiquing each other's work. He was a water colourist whose paintings are in many collections. Don enjoyed giving art lessons in his home, and at NBCC over the years. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen, daughter Carol Ann (Mark Mercer), grandsons Jared, and Jordan, who resides in Edmonton, sister Lillian in Sydney, brother Bob in Ontario, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers William and Harold, and an infant sister. Resting at Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (849-2119), with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. The Funeral Service will be held from Rothesay Baptist Church on Friday, May 10 at 2:00 pm. Interment will take place in Rothesay Baptist Cemetery at a later date. 185 | George "Benny" Benjamin Caldwell Obituary It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of George “Benny” Benjamin Caldwell – 86 of Windsor on Thursday September 2, 2021 with his family at his side at Hants Community Hospital. Benny was born January 4, 1935 to the late William and (Sarah Whitehead) Caldwell. He spent his entire career in construction retiring at 72 from W. Eric Whebby General Contractors. He was a cancer survivor of many years. He was an avid walker making many loops around the Causeway and downtown daily. He and Carol enjoyed regular shopping trips to the Valley. They were always the first to arrive at family gatherings and enjoyed our meals together and a piece of cake for dessert. Benny is survived by his wife of 65 years Carol (Shay) Caldwell and their sons Terry (Janice), Wade and daughter Lisa. Granddaughters; Christina (David Meister), Elizabeth (Adam) Sanford, Cailin and Tamara and grandson Marcus. Great-grandchildren Amanda Caldwell, Jemma and Jessa Sanford, Isaiah, Jacob, Ellie and Faith. Sisters; Gloria Gibson, Jennie (Dean) Baxter, sister-in-law Patsy Siler and many nieces and nephews. Born in Centreville on June 3, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Georgia (Bennett) Frail. Upon graduation from Kings County Academy she taught school in Greenfield, Kings County, where she met her husband Victor. Together they raised their two sons and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Church was a huge part of her life where she was involved in many Christian ministries, including teaching Sunday School, leading bible studies and working on various committees and boards. She instilled in her children and grandchildren Christian values and strived to share her love for the Lord whenever possible. She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Linda), Kentville; David (Sheila), Canaan; five grandchildren, Tanya (Jon) Akin, Jeff (Aimee), Beth Anne (Jesse) Wheaton, Jason (Heather), and Jonathan (Jennifer); eleven great grandchildren, Mitchell, Marisa, Matelyn, Rylee, Cole, Gavin, Nash, Savannah, Sarah, Meghan and Rebekah; many nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Victor; ten sisters; a brother; and a brother in infancy. He was a hard worker, very thoughtful and enjoyed joking with people. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, with a passion for guns and weapons. He kept busy with yard work and especially enjoyed being outdoors and listening to old-time country music. He was born in Windsor, N.S. the son of Amy and Frederick Bowes and has been living the past six years in Middle Sackville, N.S. He leaves to mourn his wife Marion, sons Frank (Lynne), Ian (Gloria) and daughter Karen (Neil), grandchildren, Alexander, Amy, Laura and Sarah.His teaching career started in Nova Scotia at Bramber, then Lantz, Bedford and Dartmouth. He moved to St Bruno, Quebec in 1956 as a French specialist in the high schools south of Montreal. After his retirement he completed courses in translation. He loved language and tried to learn a new word each day.
