2889 Marvin Leonard Harvey BEINN BHREAGH It is with great sadness that my fourchildren and I have to announce the passing of their devoted father, mybeloved husband, Marvin Harvey. Marvin passed away Friday, May 26, 2006. He was the eldest son of Catherine E. (MacDonald) Harvey and the late Leonard Morton Harvey Sr. of Baddeck. Marvin was a tireless educator, a dedicated coach and devoted father and husband. Marvin's love for kids translated in a 32-year adventure working with the youth of Cape Breton. He worked as a teacher in the Northside Victoria School Board before becoming a principal and eventually a co-ordinator at the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board. He was also a chairman of the board of governors at Cape Breton University and championed the institution of a bachelor of education program at the university to bring more teachers to Cape Breton. A champion of life and an innate leader, Marvin's humility was astounding, even after winning numerous awards, most notably the Queen's Jubilee Order of Canada medal and the Hugh A. Noble Distinguished Service Award, the highest award presented by the NSSAF for his contribution to interscholastic athletics. He was loved and respected by everyone he met and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Leonard Jr. and William, daughters, Heather and Rachael; mother, Catherine; brother, Paul (Madeline); sisters, Elizabeth (Graham) and Cathy; mother-in-law, Ellen Morrison; sister-in-law, Julie Tomada; nephews, Stephen (Kym), Peter and Christopher; nieces, Jennifer and Brenna. The body is to be cremated and visitation will take place in MacAskill Funeral Home in Baddeck, Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held in Greenwood United Church, Tuesday, May 30 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. There will be a receptionfollowing the funeral in the Bras d'Or Yacht Club. In memory of Marvin, donations may be made to the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Foundation or to a scholarship fund being established at Cape Breton University in his name (For more information, contact Lynda Moffatt 902-563-1232). 2891 Mary and Amy were likely twins. Amy died at age 6 years.
Looking into the possibility that Nicholas was married to Sarah's
older sister Mary Ann CALDWELL first. They are closer in
age than Nicholas and Sarah. And since Mary Ann died in 1846, it fits well.

Another possibility: Mary and Amy could have been Sarah's children
from a previous marriage. She named her first child Sarah. (after her
mother?)

2893 MARY CHARLES B. "CHARLIE" FERRIS

August 7, 2014

Charlie Ferris left us at 10:26 pm August 7, 2014 in Cape Coral, FL. She was surrounded by many of her loved ones: her husband of 61 years, Robert Stone, "Bob", Ferris; her daughter's Sunny Sauer & Robin Wilder, her son Stone Ferris & his wife Sandy & her grandson Robbie.

Charlie was born in the tidewater-town of Elizabeth City, North Carolina on March 16, 1930. She was the daughter of Lemuel Showell Blades Jr. and Eliza Laughinghouse Blades. She was the sister of Lemuel Showell Blades III.

She attended Fairfax Academy Prep School in Virginia and Peace College in the Raleigh-Durham area. In 1952 she came out as a Debutante in Elizabeth City Society. That same year she met Bob on a blind date. They married January 31, 1953.

She is survived by her husband "Bob" and their five children: Stephen Matthew Ferris, Mary Theresa Wilkerson, Mary Blades Sutherland Sauer, Mary Robin Wilder and Robert Stone Ferris Jr. And her thirteen grandchildren: Aaron,"Val","Kit","Jamie", "Denny","Dan","Katie", Amanda,"Nick","Robbie", Morgan, Skyler and "Max". And great grandchildren Anthony and Kara,

After their wedding, Charlie and Bob moved to San Francisco. They then moved to Fairfax, California and San Anselmo, California, a few years later for the first leg of the raising of their family. During this period, Charlie was a pioneer in the movement to replace the synthetic nurturing of children with artificial baby formula with natural breastfeeding as a leader in the Marin County "La Leche League".

In 1973 Charlie pulled up her families roots, as the Ferris' moved to an olive ranch on the soon to be renamed street of Sevillano Lane in Corning California. They spent the next 30 years there raising olives, cows and kids. In Corning, Charlie became an educator in AIDS awareness and gave lectures in surrounding areas. She was President of the Women's League in addition. She was the Musical Director of the Corning Roman Catholic Church.

She and Bob moved briefly to Redding, California, but they could no longer restrain their itchy feet. They first spent months trailering across Canada and the US. Then she and Bob spent a year circumnavigating the planet in the Queen Elizabeth II, before settling in Cape Coral.

After a stint battling cancer, "Charlie" passed quietly in the night.

There will be a service Saturday, August 23 2014 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd., Cape Coral at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, gifts or donations to the American Cancer Society.
