Pineo, of Falmouth, Hants Co., was born inCornwallis, County of Kings, 63 years ago; and over 41 years since he,with his wife and family, removed to Falmouth, where they have sinceresided. About three years ago Mr. Pineo was sticken with blindness, besides being afflicted with that dread disease, diabetes, whicheventually carried him off. By occupation Mr. Pineo was a farmer, andwas regarded as being a very industrious and intelligent man, and a kindneighbor. With his family, Mr. Pineo was connected with the Baptistdenomination, he having been baptized by Dr. Saunders, of Halifax, someyears ago. He felt his great affliction very keenly, and it was a hardmatter for him to become reconciled to his loss, which appeared to growupon him more and more. Being an old acquaintance, I felt it myprivilege to visit him in his deep affliction from time to time and haveprayer with him, and urging on him the duty of submission to the will ofhis Heavenly Father. Mr. Pineo had been a great reader and was glad tolisten attentively to God's word, and was desirous to have prayeroffered in his behalf, and also enjoyed the singing of a hymn. Whilepossessed of a religious mind and a desire to do right, his disease, nodoubt, tended to render him somewhat irritable at times. He was born in Upper Granville, N.S. where he carried on the business of a general trader for several years.About 40 years ago he removed to Saint John and opened a flour and general provision store on the North Market Wharf. His first venture in shipping was the schooner "Kate" (*named after his wife), a vessel of 60 tons burthen. For years Mr Troop kept adding to his fleet of small vessels which were used mainly in the West Indies business. Gradually as the freight market there became unprofitable, Mr Troop transferred his operations to vessels of a larger class. The vessels that he was interested in after that period were mainly built in the shipyards established by himself with Mr Young in Nova Scotia and John S. Parker, Tynemouth Creek. It was to the enlarged ideas of Mr Troop, assisted by his son, Howard D. Troop that the character and outfit of our spruce vessels reached their present high stage of perfection.
