Surtees comments on the above will: `The testator appears to have been a sort of gamekeeper under the family of Ratcliffe. This is the first occurrence of nets and setting dogs, which even after this time are very rarely mentioned. In 1582, Edward Weldon of Colborne has "a paire of larke netts," which he has sold for 5s. In the beginning of the next century we have dogs occasionally alluded to. The testator was a member of a younger branch of the family of Dodsworth, of Thornton Watlass, which had settled in the parishes of Croft and Barton, as tenants under the families of Place and Catterick, with whom they were connected by marriage. They were for many years lessees of Halnaby Grange, and afterwards settled at Barton, where they rose to some consequence. Another very respectable family of that name settled at Jolby, which formerly belonged to Easby Abbey, and in 1557 Lawrence Dodsworth obtained a grant of it from the Crown at 30 years' purchase. | 4147 | WILLIAMS (LUNN) Deborah Pearl - 70 of Sandy Point formerly of Welshtown passed away peacefully in Roseway Manor January 5, 2019. Born in Windsor she was a daughter of the late Thurston and Ella (Flynn) Lunn. Deborah worked in banking for many years she loved to knit, walk and enjoyed many hours of canoeing on Welshtown Lake. She will be missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years Derek; step-daughter, Andrea (Ken); sister, Nancy MacLean (Hugh Don), step-grandchildren; Jasmine and Lily, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by brothers; Thurston and Curtis, sisters; Judith, Lois and Golda in infancy. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home Shelburne. Service will take place at a later date. | 4148 | Winott (Brydon), Lillian Pauline Age 93, of Harmony, Kings Co. passed away in Shannex - Orchard Court in Kentville on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Born on the family farm in Black Rock, Kings Co., on April 06, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Edna (Pineo) Brydon, the third eldest of 10 children. She was a very kind and considerate wife, sister and aunt. After graduating from Normal College she taught in many different rural schools in Kings County, including West Kings High School, retiring from Kingston Elementary. She is survived by sisters Marjorie MacPherson and Pearl (Willis) Huntley both of White Point and Jean (John) Ens of Digby, a brother Avard (Judy) Brydon of Black Rock and a sister-in-law Eleanor Brydon of Berwick. Also a great many nieces and nephews that she cherished as her own. Predeceased by her beloved husband Paul Winott, sisters Mildred Cotter, Leonore Spinney and brothers William, Phillip and Edward. She enjoyed sharing her Bible hope with others as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 6 at 2 pm in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 337 Main St, Kingston, with her nephew Philip Spinney officiating. Surrounded by his family he quietly passed from his earthly home to his forever home with the Lord on Friday April 12th at his home in Westville. John was born April 28th 1956 in Windsor, Hants to Arnold Wile & Helen (Caldwell) Wile and grew up in Leminsiter, Hants until moving to Belmont, Colchester at the age of 16 where he met his bride to be Jane (Currie) on April 15 1973 – they have been together ever since, raising their family in Crowes Mills, Colchester and later moving to Pictou County in 2010. He is survived by his wife Jane and children – Russell (Sanja MacDonald), Erin (Bryce Copp) and Ellen (Kyle Conrad); his grandchildren Caide, Jayden, Gabe & Ella-Mae; mother Helen Wile & mother-in-law Joan Currie; sister Maxine (Paul Stevens), brothers Earl (Diane), Steven (Heather), Walter (Janet) & Mark (Wendy), brothers-in-law Dan (Heather), Jamie (Michele) who are his best friends and Tim (Doug), as well as many nieces & nephews.
