4184 | Yarmouth Herald-October 4, 1860FATAL ACCIDENT-On Tuesday, 18th inst., Mr. Jacob Titus, of Westport, upwards of fifty years of age, was killed in the following manner: he was in a fishing vessel, which was anchored about two miles this side Petite Passage, at a place called Long Beach, over which is a lodge of precipitous rocks. He with the rest of the crew were ashore and clambering up these rocks, in search of blackberries, when one of the loose stones, set in motion by the feet of one of those who was highest up, rolled down with prodigious force, striking the deceased upon the head, and causing almost instantaneous death. He was a respectable man, and leaves a widow and large family to deplore his melancholy departure from earth. | Source (S1628)

4192 | • On the Yorkshire Administrations inquisitions post mortem, his name is spelled 'Raiph' instead of Ralph. Some research on the subject indicates that this was an old British 'upper class' spelling of Ralph. I think it is possible that this Ralph Ward is the Ralph Ward b. 1577 in Monkton, near Ripon whose parents were John Ward and Jenet (Jane?) Sawkelth. There is no trace found of him later in that area, so he could very well be the Ralph Ward who ends up in East Layton. It's only a 45 minute drive today. You can view my Ward lineage 'theory' on my website at https://ginsgenes.me/tree/showmedia.php?mediaID=191 Note: There was also a James Ward of East Layton buried at Forcett 14 Aug 1654 Could have been either a son or brother. | WARD, Ralph (I8971)
