- GOREHAM, Catherine Lois (nee Swim) - 78, Clark’s Harbour, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Roseway Regional Hospital in Shelburne, N.S. surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 6, 1933 in Clark’s Harbour, daughter of the late Cleveland "Speedy" and Ethel (Banks) Swim. Catherine had varied careers, such as teacher, Royal Bank employee, restaurant owner, and cook. She also was a long-time member of the Seabreeze Rebecca Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, Friends of the Library (CH Branch), and as the Clark’s Harbour representative on the board of Western Counties Regional Library, and she took an avid interest in the federal and the provincial Liberal Party of which she was very proud. She looked forward to cooking for and attending her Christmas Club.
She was the matriarch of her family and had many friends in her hometown and elsewhere. She was well known for her cooking which many had the pleasure to enjoy. She was an avid reader and always willing to assist in any cause to benefit her community in which she will be sorely missed.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Milford "Miff"; daughter, Lois of Muncho Lake, B.C.; sons, Ernest (Mary) and Andrew (Kim) of Clark’s Harbour. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren Michael (Susanne), Barrington; Falyn (Aaron) Upper Woods Harbour; Joshua, Halifax; and great-grandchildren Emily, Caden, and Joshua-Philip "JP"; sister, Barbara Conrad, Clark’s Harbour, and brother Cleveland(Janice), Bedford, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Margaret(Harris) Wickens, Georgina(Mortimer) Parsons and twin daughters Joanne and Jill in infancy. Many thanks to the staff of the Yarmouth and Shelburne hospitals for the wonderful care of our mother during her illness, and to the many that visited, called and especially to the Red Hatters of Clark’s Harbour.
