ATWELL, Burton Milford "Burt" (1939-2005) - White Rock, Kings Co., passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2005, with his family by his side in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, following a courageous fight with cancer. Born in Newtonville, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Norman B. and Mabel (Walsh) Atwell. He worked for W.K. Sharpe and Son, Grand Pre Fruit Company, Northern Affairs and Natural Resources, and Welton's Construction. He started his own auto body repair and went on to become owner/operator of Atwell Trucking where he was contracted by First Choice Construction and later LaFarge Canada (formerly Standard Paving). He was a member of the Kings County Truckers Association for 24 years and he was also a member of the Nova Scotia Truckers Safety Association. He worked for DOT (New Minas Division) driving a snowplow for 15 years. He enjoyed driving his 4-wheeler, spending time at the lakes, liked to work on the projects in his garage and yard, and especially enjoyed having friends stopping by for coffee. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and pet dog, Chill. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, the former Doris Greene; daughter, Mary (Joe) Weir, Canaan, Kings Co.; sons, Philip (Pam) Atwell, White Rock; Paul Atwell, English Mountain Road; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Atwell, Canaan; brothers, Walter (Pearl), Black Creek, Vancouver Island, B.C.; Lenlie (Joan), Lower Sunken Lake Road; Robert "Bob", New Minas; sisters, Aileen (Leslie) Strong, Berwick; Murna (Guy) Tracey, Winfield, B.C.; Hilda Krull, White Rock; Pauline (Delbert) Keddy, Texas; Freda Brewster, Kentville; grandchildren, Stacie and Samantha Weir, Sandy Hiscoe, Danielle and Norman Atwell, Nicole, Melissa and Katlyn Atwell, and honorary granddaughter, Jayna Green; his aunt, Mable Best, Wolfville; mother-in-law, Cassie Greene, White Rock; brothers-in-law, Edward Green, Kentville; Harry, David and Robert Greene, all of White Rock; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Beverly Myles and brother-in-law, Glen Krull. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, November 4, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where a funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 5., Pastor Dr. Andrew Mack officiating. Burial will take place in Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pre. Donations in memory may be made to the Lower Horton Cemetery, White Rock Cemetery or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
