- O’Neill, Paul Francis, 80 years, of Dartmouth, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on January 4, 2016. Born in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Henry and Helen (Egan) O’Neill. Paul started his schooling at Sir John Thompson, Halifax, but when the family moved to Yarmouth, N.S., where he grew up and developed a love for playing the piano, he attended St. Ambrose School and Yarmouth High. He subsequently graduated with a diploma in Engineering and a Bachelor of Science from St. Mary’s University, Halifax. His main working years (29) were as a Mathematical Technician at the Defence Research Establishment Atlantic, where he enjoyed playing Santa each year at the Christmas Staff party. Paul was a musician at heart, interested in learning and an avid reader. He was a lover of wheels, bicycles, motorcycles (of which he had many) and trucks. He liked his sailboat as well. He leaves to miss his company, three sisters, Maureen, Sister of Charity, Gail and Carol Anne, one brother Garry and his wife Eileen Hornby and their children Jennifer O’Neill (husband Michael Wick)and their son Wylder, Los Angeles, California; Laurie O’Neill (husband Allan Shaw), Mooretown, Ontario and their children Joey and Heidi who sent many letters and drawings to cheer Paul during his illness; Brendan O’Neill, London, Ontario, who had a great connection with his uncle Paul. Three first cousins, Eileen Mackintosh (Gage), Helen Taylor and Ken Dunsworth (Diane). Visitation will be at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street, Thursday 2-5 pm. Mass of Christian burial will be Friday 11 am at Saint John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, Colby Village. Father Irek Bem, celbrant. Reception to follow in church hall, with burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
