- March 8, 1932 ~ October 17, 2017Harold Walter Fletcher, age 85, of Ellershouse, Hants County, formerly Newport Corner, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by his loving family.Born in Newport Corner, Hants County, Nova Scotia, on March 8, 1932, Harold was the son of the late Walter and Ethel (Forrest) Fletcher. Harold was former owner/operator of Fletcher's Tires in Ellershouse for many years. He was a dedicated volunteer with the Citizens on Patrol, and an advocate for saving the barn swallows in Hants County, building one nest at a time. He especially loved country music, dancing, bowling and playing darts. His greatest joy was spending time outside in the fresh air, gardening, fishing or the annual hunting expeditions. Harold loved large horses and it brought him great joy to be able to share this interest with his family.Harold is survived by his wife of 32 years, the former Beverly Faye Blanchard (DeMont); his children, Barry (Wendy) Fletcher, Lequille; Helen (Dewar) Lindsay, Windsor; Ginny (Danny) Caldwell, Ellershouse; Bruce (Denise) Fletcher, Gormanville; Kathy (Paul) MacIntyre, Ellershouse; Donna Blanchard, Seaforth, Ontario; Robert (Elaine) Blanchard, Ellershouse; Reuben (Sherri) Blanchard, Ste. Croix; Kenneth Fletcher (Marnie McNally), Dartmouth; Mary-Elizabeth Blanchard, Ellershouse; Kirk (Susan) Fletcher, Newport Station; Jane Grandy, Sackville; daughter-in-law, Vicki Fletcher, Ellershouse; 31 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren; sister, Edith McClare, Windsor; foster brothers, Eric (Velma) Hope, Hammonds Plains; Jim (Liz) Francis, Halifax; brother-in-law, Owen (Rita) LaPierre, Dartmouth; sister-in-law, Joyce Leaman.Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his son, Harold “Hal” Fletcher; sisters, Edna Lantz and Lillian LaPierre; brother, Doug Fletcher; foster brother, Steve Kerr.
