- Yarmouth Herald-October 4, 1860FATAL ACCIDENT-On Tuesday, 18th inst., Mr. Jacob Titus, of Westport, upwards of fifty years of age, was killed in the following manner: he was in a fishing vessel, which was anchored about two miles this side Petite Passage, at a place called Long Beach, over which is a lodge of precipitous rocks. He with the rest of the crew were ashore and clambering up these rocks, in search of blackberries, when one of the loose stones, set in motion by the feet of one of those who was highest up, rolled down with prodigious force, striking the deceased upon the head, and causing almost instantaneous death. He was a respectable man, and leaves a widow and large family to deplore his melancholy departure from earth.
