- According to family knowledge the father of Evelyn was Reuben Caldwell of St. Croix. There were two Reuben Caldwells in St. Croix at the time of Evelyn's birth:1. Reuben Hunter Caldwell, born July 2, 1880, son of Joseph and Mary Jane (Hunter) Caldwell. He would have been 29 years old at her birth.2. Reuben Edward Caldwell, born November 22, 1897, son of James Edward and Margaret (Shanks) Caldwell. He would have been only 12 years old at her birth, so not likely, especially since her mother Jessie May Riley would have been 24 years old.
