- Marvin Leonard Harvey BEINN BHREAGH It is with great sadness that my fourchildren and I have to announce the passing of their devoted father, mybeloved husband, Marvin Harvey. Marvin passed away Friday, May 26, 2006. He was the eldest son of Catherine E. (MacDonald) Harvey and the late Leonard Morton Harvey Sr. of Baddeck. Marvin was a tireless educator, a dedicated coach and devoted father and husband. Marvin's love for kids translated in a 32-year adventure working with the youth of Cape Breton. He worked as a teacher in the Northside Victoria School Board before becoming a principal and eventually a co-ordinator at the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board. He was also a chairman of the board of governors at Cape Breton University and championed the institution of a bachelor of education program at the university to bring more teachers to Cape Breton. A champion of life and an innate leader, Marvin's humility was astounding, even after winning numerous awards, most notably the Queen's Jubilee Order of Canada medal and the Hugh A. Noble Distinguished Service Award, the highest award presented by the NSSAF for his contribution to interscholastic athletics. He was loved and respected by everyone he met and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Leonard Jr. and William, daughters, Heather and Rachael; mother, Catherine; brother, Paul (Madeline); sisters, Elizabeth (Graham) and Cathy; mother-in-law, Ellen Morrison; sister-in-law, Julie Tomada; nephews, Stephen (Kym), Peter and Christopher; nieces, Jennifer and Brenna. The body is to be cremated and visitation will take place in MacAskill Funeral Home in Baddeck, Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held in Greenwood United Church, Tuesday, May 30 at 2 p.m. with Rev.
