- ObituarySamuel “Gordon” Lowthers, age 72, of Hantsport, passed away Tuesday, December 24th, 2013, in his home, with his family by his side. Born on September 21st, 1941, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Gordon was a son of the late Samuel and Verna (White) Lowthers. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, the former Mabel Harvey; son, Barrie (Pamela) Lowthers, Fredericton, New Brunswick; daughter, Shelley (Doug) Garland, Lockhartville; granddaughters, Courtney Garland; Olivia, Faith and Emma Lowthers; sister, Jean Lowthers, Hantsport; nieces and nephew, along with many friends. Besides his parents, Samuel and Verna (White) Lowthers; he was predeceased by his brother, Reid Lowthers. Gordon was a loving and social man who always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He retired in 2006 from Minas Basin Pulp and Power. Gordon grew up in Sweets Corner. He excelled at hockey and running while at Hants West High School. He loved gardening and animals, especially dogs. One of Gordon’s special traits was his witty and dry sense of humour, which always made him fun to be around. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 30th, 2013, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor, with Tim Munday officiating. A private family burial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Gordon, may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the S.P.C.A. Hants County Branch.
